We have cause to celebrate because the grace of God has appeared, offering the gift of salvation to all people. Grace arrives with its own instruction: run away from anything that leads us away from God; abandon the lusts and passions of this world; live life now in this age with awareness and self-control, doing the right thing and keeping yourselves holy.
Titus 2:11-12 (The Voice)
Grace gives us the basis and power of overcoming sin.
Anyone who uses grace as an excuse for sin actually misrepresents grace. This is what makes God's grace so unattractive. It's just as good to tell you that God is responsible for our sinful choices and lifestyle. Unfortunately, this lie has caused the body of Christ to react against the beauty of God's grace, which has led to a return to legalism and licentiousness.
Grace in Christ is the foundation for true holy living and godly conduct.
Just as Jesus taught His disciples about Kingdom values and principles, He will teach us to live wisely in this present world. That means turning away from a sinful, indulgent lifestyle and living a life filled with God and doing what He leads us to do. This isn’t to say we’ll never sin again. Rather, the more we rest in the truth of who we are and have in Christ, the less desire we will have for sinful behaviour. Sin isn't who we are anymore because our identity is in Christ now.
Grace is sin-resistance.
If we do not want to live a compromising life of sin and inconsistency, we must embrace all that Christ offers through His grace through faith. God’s grace gives us the power to live holy lives because Christ saved us from the deadly grip of sin. (Romans 5:1) Therefore, if a believer tells you that grace is an excuse for sin, it is evident that they are not aware of Paul's admonition: "For sin is no longer a tyrant over you; indeed, you are under grace and not the law. (Romans 6:14, The Voice).
We are not only set free from our old sinfulness and sinful habits, but we are also set free for love, joy and victory.
