Firstlight was born out of a heart for people and a passion for God’s mission. It began with a simple but powerful vision - to be a light that reflects the heart of Jesus to our community.
Our story began when Ps Richard Tan, his wife Joanne, and their children Amanda and Nathaniel followed God’s call to plant a church. With humble beginnings, big faith, and a love for people from every nation, they built a community that carried the heartbeat of missions and reaching the world with the gospel.
Firstlight was birthed through prayer, faith, and a deep desire to see people encounter God’s love in everyday life. For many years, Ps Richard faithfully shepherded the church with wisdom, humility, and a servant heart, laying a foundation of prayer, faith, and genuine care for people. He continues to be honoured and loved as our Founding Pastor, and his heart for mission still beats strongly in who we are today - it’s woven into our very DNA.
A New Season
In 2025, Ps Rinna Bowyer was appointed as Senior Pastor, stepping into this new chapter with a heart to build on the same foundation - prayer, unity, and the transforming presence of Jesus. Under her leadership, Firstlight is embracing a season of renewal, simplicity, and mission as we seek to follow God’s way of doing church - together, in relationship, and for the sake of our city.
We’re not a perfect church - just a real family learning to follow Jesus together. We make mistakes, we grow, and we keep coming back to grace.
