The Bible is full of stories of how God chose the broken over the beautiful, the foolish over the wise, the humble over the powerful, the poor over the wealthy, the unschooled over the learned and the weak people over the strong people.

God always works with and through the ordinary people to fulfil His purpose. When we fully embrace this truth, all our worries and hesitations, all our running and hiding away, and all our self-loathing and rejection will fade away.

Do you know that many of our most influential Christian figures throughout history to date have emerged from difficult and humble backgrounds? Despite being subject to abuse or disadvantages of all kinds, and having been exploited many times, they have refused to remain victims and rose above the cynical outlook of their lives to become positive contributors to both the church and society.

Consider these words from the Apostle Paul:

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (NKJV)

How God chooses you is not determined by your experiences or expertise, or by your strengths or weaknesses. When God made you a new creature in Christ, He took away all fleshy and sinful encumbrances so that there is no limit to what the power of His Spirit can accomplish through you.

When we recognize this truth, we will be able to reach greater heights for God. Humble yourself and allow God to fulfill His purpose in and through you in powerful and profound ways. One stone fell a giant. Two loaves and five fishes fed thousands. One net was stretched to its breaking point when it caught a multitude of fish. In some ways, their stories are also our stories. Their lessons are also our lessons as well. And, like them, we shall experience the delight of having been chosen by God.
