Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus was baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:3-4 (ESV)
As a Christian, it can be easy to live a comfortable life with little to worry about other than our personal needs and wants. As a result, many of us continue to be comfortable as churchgoers rather than followers of Jesus. We become resistant to change and do not welcome those who disrupt our "normal" Christian life.
Instead of living a comfortable life, we should learn to become more like Jesus Christ. To do so is not out of reach because we are now new creations in Christ, and Jesus has given us the power and authority to live our new life of faith and freedom. The paradox is that becoming more like Christ makes life's burdens easier to bear, if not lighter. This is because when we surrender what we are afraid of losing to God, He has the power to restore everything we entrust to Him (see Matthew 6:19-21).
Nothing undermines the gospel more than the notion of staying passive in our faith. We must remember that when Christ died, we died in Him, and when He rose, we rose with Him. This means that we no longer live for ourselves, but for Him, who died and rose for our benefit.
We are to become who Christ has called us to be after experiencing a taste of heaven through His new life. We can be change agents and catalysts wherever we go, ensuring that the presence and power of Christ's kingdom and reign are felt.
