Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Colossians 3:2 (NKJV)

You must understand that God cares more about who you are and how that affects you than about what you do for Him.

Discovering your identity in Christ comes first before everything else. As you learn about the truth and reality of your oneness in Christ, you will come to appreciate your true worth and significance. Most of us would prefer, however, to find our worth and significance in things. We pursue them even though we are aware of how transient and potentially unfulfilling they can be.

Don’t live life by pursuing the many things at the expense of the one thing that matters most. Be willing to pursue Jesus and set your mind on Him. Your life in Him will empower you to live with the freedom of being fully loved and fully accepted by God. There is no fear of ever disappointing God because we are secured in our standing before God through His grace, not by our performance or achievements.

Aim to be a person of substance rather than be a person of success.

Let the worth of your life be measured by the positive impact you can make on others instead of merely accumulating things for yourself. It is simply seeing more of what you can give and not what you can gain. Then you will recognise continual success and blessings are fruits of living out the gospel. This will change how you relate to God and interact with others.

Your identity in Christ gives you both the impetus and confidence to become a person of substance. A person of substance uses their God-given means, energy and creativity to benefit and better the world they live in. They find a life outside of themselves and choose to live a different way that reflects the life of Jesus.

Every follower of Christ can be a person of substance. It is about allowing God's indwelling Spirit to produce a spiritually healthy version of you from within and to actively partner with Him to impact lives everywhere.
