We preach Christ (the Messiah) crucified, [preaching which] to the Jews is a scandal and an offensive stumbling block [that springs a snare or trap], and to the Gentiles it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense.
1 Corinthians 1:2-3 (Amplified)
What we believe about the gospel will either underline or undermine our witness.
If we get the gospel right, then we will attract the people Jesus attracted and annoy the people Jesus annoyed. However, it should never be our intent to annoy anyone. Rather, we should recognise the gospel is inherently offensive, and that our commitment to Jesus will sometimes lead us to do or say things that others find offensive and objectionable. Let them be offended. If people hate us because of Jesus, it is to be expected; but if people hate Jesus because of us, then we must take care not to offend unnecessarily.
According to the Apostle Paul, the message of the cross will always be foolishness to some, a stumbling block to others. In other words, some people will respond positively and others negatively. As Christians, we are responsible to speak the truth about Jesus. We must, however, speak the truth in love. If following Jesus does not actually lead you to love more dearly and deeply, your Christian faith is more of an intimidating religion than an intimate relationship with Christ.
Let us proclaim the gospel in all of its richness as we understand it.
Sharing the gospel is an act of love and the manner in which we do it reflects God’s invitation and welcome. It is more than simply persuading people to make a decision for salvation. Rather it points to the relentless and unfailing love of God love as revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross. We should trust its power. We don't need to change anything to make it more powerful. Just stay faithful and trust God to use you to impact the lives of those around you.
