Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:12, 16 (ESV)

All believers already have the mind of Christ.

When we are born again in Christ through grace by faith, God made us partakers of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) by placing the Holy Spirit in us. The Holy Spirit indwells and enables us to have the mind of Christ where we can know and discern the thoughts of God and His eternal purposes.

When we surrender to God’s sovereign will to conform us to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29), the Holy Spirit will renew and transform our minds with the truth of who we are and what we have in Christ so that we can live in the reality and fullness of all that He has given us freely.

You don’t need to earn or strive for what God has already blessed you with in Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). Learn to be humble and receive everything by faith. A renewed mind in Christ brings rest, wholeness and peace. This sanctifying process takes a lifetime of trust and confidence in God’s Word and His amazing presence within us.

The more you are aware of the gospel truths of your identity and inheritance, the more you live authentically and in accordance with who God intentionally and purposefully created you to be. Then all sinful habits and behaviour will give way to a pure pursuit of holiness and godly character. This heartfelt desire to be like the Father is the best expression of our sonship or daughterhood.

Jesus models for us what it means to be a child of God.

He knew His identity was defined and secured in the Father’s perfect love and pleasure. This was why He completely trusted God with His life and believed that God would raise Him from the dead and seat Him at His right hand in heaven.

Having the mind of Christ empowers us to think as Jesus thinks and to act as Jesus acts. It is by walking with the Spirit that we discern more clearly the steps towards Christlikeness, faithful obedience and spiritual maturity.
