Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 5:9 (NKJV)

Jesus identifies all Christians as peacemakers in one of His beatitudes.

The Greek word for "peacemakers" is eirinopoiós which translates as "a producer or creator of peace." This unusual word appears only once in the Bible. Then again, we have an unusual call to live an unusual life.

As His sons and daughters, God has already endowed us with the capacity to promote or bring about peace wherever we are. Making peace entails engaging in the work of reconciliation in order to advance God's shalom (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Shalom creates a community where people live in harmony with God and one another.

God has placed all of us in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities where we have the ability and opportunity to extend His shalom peace to others, doing so without regard for praise or personal gain.

Consider the possible effects when you bring God's shalom peace into the workplace. We must demystify work as merely to make a living but to see it as an avenue to love and to redeem those within our circle of influence. Change your mindset from one of working only for financial gain and position to one of loving and caring for those around you. That necessitates a paradigm shift. But when it happens, you'll transform your workplace into a vibrant setting for sharing and spreading God's shalom through encouraging words and deeds of kindness.

You are God's building block of peace in the office, the home, the neighbourhood, and the city. And as you step up to fulfil your role as God's peacemaker, you are literally rewriting the rules for how to do business, form relationships, and build society.

Never undervalue what God can accomplish through you.

You are sowing the seed of peace today, and it will grow and bring many rewards, not just for this generation but for many more.
