My friends, be patient until the Lord returns. Think of farmers who wait patiently for the autumn and spring rains to make their valuable crops grow. Be patient like those farmers and don't give up. The Lord will soon be here!

James 5:7-8 (NKJV)

Most prayers are answered quickly and unexpectedly. When delays or obstacles arise, we should use the opportunity to speak with God and seek to understand and discern God's heart on a particular issue.

A delay is not a denial. Rather, a delay causes us to consider things we would not have thought about otherwise. We can trust God to bring everything together for our good, but a delay can serve as a pause button, allowing us to quiet our hearts and listen for an answer or deeper revelation.

Twice, the Holy Spirit delayed Paul to direct him to a different location, resulting in significant ministry opportunities and impact. A delayed catch of fish prompted Peter to repent, transforming him from a fisherman to a fisher of men. The delayed birth of John the Baptist was a unique event that heralded a new era in salvation history.

Your story, like the rest of ours, is part of and linked to God's incredible story of unwavering grace and goodness. Instead of being frustrated by unanswered prayers, learn to accept God's sovereign timing and ways. Do not dismiss or underestimate what God is doing during your delays and waiting.

If we are easily discouraged by the outward appearance of things, we are still walking on sight rather than faith. This weakens our spiritual defences and leaves us vulnerable to the devil's tricks and attacks.

The Apostle James encourages us to wait patiently, just as a farmer does when anticipating a plentiful harvest. Patience is God's way of preparing you for increased faithfulness and fruitfulness in the coming season.

Regardless of how much you already trust God, He desires to expand and strengthen your ability to do so. God will often do something in you before He does something for you or communicates with you. Then you will be able to receive and become everything God has planned for you through Christ.
