The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

2 Corinthians 13:14 (ASV)

We need a fresh understanding of the Trinity and its significance for our church life.

The church is more than a company of believers gathering in one place for worship, prayer, and mission. Rather, it is a people who are deeply and intimately connected to the Triune God and one another. As the Triune God has brought us into fellowship with Him, we are also brought into fellowship with those who love God. We are no longer strangers or outsiders but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God's household (Ephesians 2:19).

The Father sent His Son to save us (Mark 9:37; Galatians 4:4) and both the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit to sanctify us (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7). As the Father loves His Son, He also loves His Son’s Bride, the church. The Holy Spirit helps the Bride in getting herself ready for her Bridegroom. All these divine activities emphasise the importance of the church to God.

When our church life is rooted in the Trinity, we are everything we can be and never need to be anything else. Our understanding of the Triune God transforms us into lovers of God first, rather than thinkers or talkers. Being united by love and life in the Father, in the Son, and in the Spirit, we are the visible expression of God's love and life in the world. When others see us, they see God—not because we are God, but because God is living in us and is one with us.
