[Take] the sword of the spirit, which is God’s word.

Ephesians 6:17 (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul describes God's Word as the “sword of the Spirit.” In ancient combat, a sword could be used as both an offensive and defensive weapon against an enemy. Likewise, wield God's Word as a sword to reinforce the victory Christ won for you. The spiritual sword is one of Christ's many weapons. (Ephesians 6:12-17). When you combine all these spiritual weapons and protection, you can overcome and defeat Satan's attacks!

No spiritual forces of evil and wickedness, or negative thoughts and feelings, can defeat you when you declare God's Word over difficult circumstances when faith appears weak, and victory appears lost.

As a believer, you must learn to live according to God's Word and walk with spiritual authority. Then you can confidently use God's Word as a spiritual sword to combat any intimidation from the enemy. Jesus effectively wielded God's Word against Satan in the wilderness, and following His example frees not only yourself but everyone else who is bound by devilish lies and deceptions.

Don't use the sword to cut people down but use it to set sinners free.

In Hebrews 4:12, Paul tells us that God's word is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, with the ability to change us from within and keep us faithful throughout our lives. Be bold and courageous when sharing the gospel through God's Word. While you may not see immediate results, believe that God's Word will not return to God unless His purpose is fulfilled—for God's Word has the power to convict every heart of sin and the need for salvation.

What you need to understand is that every time you share the gospel, you are pushing back the already defeated power of darkness by revealing the advancing power of God's kingdom and bringing people into an encounter with the King.
