But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

2 Corinthians 3:14-17 (NIV)

According to the Apostle Paul, those under the Old Covenant of Law have a veil over their hearts. They place their faith in the righteousness of works rather than the righteousness of Christ. As believers, we should have nothing to do with the Law. This is because the veil has already been lifted for those who have turned to Christ.

Returning to the Law is spiritual adultery (Romans 7:1-6).

If we use the Law to gain God's acceptance and love, we are putting our confidence in the flesh rather than Christ (Philippians 3:3). Keep in mind that we are not against the Law; rather, we are against how we use the Law to regulate the Christian life. It is unnecessary, foolish and detrimental to our spiritual life. The Law is no longer binding on us because we have been declared pardoned and righteous by God through Christ's imputed righteousness in us.

The Law of the Spirit can do a far better job in transforming our hearts that the Law of Moses. Love takes us beyond the Law. We obey not out of duty or obligation. We obey because we already have this freedom to move as the Holy Spirit leads. Such an obedience is awakened and sustained by God’s love through His Spirit and Scriptures.

Our obedience flows from God's love for us and our desire to love God back. It is grace-filled, not legalistic or burdensome. Those who walk in love fulfil the Law through Christ.
