You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:32 (CEV)

A huge part of our growth and maturity comes from a meaningful transformation that flows from an abiding personal relationship with Jesus, rather than simply accumulating knowledge.

Instead of practising what they already know and have in Christ, many believers suffer from a persistent feeling of lack. They try to fix it with more teachings instead of applying the truth of the gospel to everyday circumstances. While sound teachings and spiritual understanding have their place, we do not seek spiritual knowledge for its own sake or to satisfy an inquisitive mind.

Jesus tells us that the reality of our true freedom rests on our ability to "know the truth". The Greek word for "know" is ginōskō, and it is often used to describe the intimacy between a man and his wife. In other words, "knowing the truth" is about living out the reality of what is already ours in Christ—in respect to His relationship with His Bride, the Church.

Jesus offers true and full freedom.

The true freedom we have in Christ is distinct from the false and egocentric freedom of our culture, which encourages us to abandon self-control in order to satisfy our selfish desires. We have this freedom because Jesus paid the price for it by completing His work on the cross. In other words, the freedom He offers is a gift to be received, not a goal to be attained. As you live in the truth of this freedom, you will genuinely experience a sound mind, power, and love working in and through you.
