Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”

John 8:12 (CEV)

Jesus gives an amazing invitation with a gracious promise, that is, whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness. Darkness is not sin, but darkness can lead you to sin and make you lose your way. In the context of the gospel of John, darkness means struggling and stumbling through our own personal world without the light of the gospel.

Without revelation, you will find yourself entrapped in the darkness of life. In the dark, everything appears to be the same without any distinction. The most valuable object in the dark is valueless if no one sees it. There is a risk that something awful or deadly is lurking in the dark, but no one can detect it or prevent it until it is almost too late.

When Jesus declares: "I am the light for the world", He wants to give His life and light to us and everyone else who sits in darkness so that we can live in truth and radiate with the light of His life in us. His Spirit within us is both the light that shines the reality of our identity in Christ and the life-giver that enables us to live our new life in Christ.

Since we have the love and life of Christ in us, let us bear forth the truth to those who do not know it. Their lives will not get better if they continue to live in the shadows. Instead, they will grow increasingly despondent, and the worst thing is that they will be unaware of it.

People would settle for less than who they were designed to be in Him when they lack the light to illuminate the way to God. Why do you think we see so many people pretending to be happy but actually hurting on the inside? They so-called self-medicate themselves with substance abuse to numb their pain and be in denial. . If people can see Jesus exactly as He is, His light and life will begin to transform them in the deepest and darkest parts of their hearts.

Be a light for God and shine brightly for His glory.
