Faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (ESV)
Receiving from God is resting in Christ. It involves listening constantly and attentively to the message of the good news and acting on it swiftly with conviction and power.
Faith is Christ-rooted. Faith will supernaturally naturally flow from active listening to the gospel. The Apostle Paul says faith “comes”, which means that faith in Christ is a gift we receive when we hear the gospel of God’s grace and are inspired by the Holy Spirit to understand it. This hearing of faith brings the life of Christ to dwell in us, freeing us from the power of sin and giving us all things necessary to be more like Him.
Most people believe that faith is illogical or a fabrication of their imagination. However, faith is logical and reasonable from a Scriptural standpoint because faith is founded on numerous undeniable pieces of evidence and demonstrations of God. It is through God's self-revelation in various ways and by various means that biblical characters learned that God is real and that He rewards those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
If you desire to grow in faith and walk in greater faith, keep hearing the gospel and keep receiving the grace of God to overcome all obstacles that hinder or hurt your faith. Like cold water to a thirsty soul, the gospel is refreshing and life-giving. We cannot get too much of the gospel, so long as we hear with a humble heart and dependence upon the Spirit of Grace to reveal the truth to us.
We hear the gospel not simply to be saved by it, but to live by its truth and reality every day. Make it your priority to hear the gospel afresh and see Christ’s beauty and perfect excellency in all of its fullness. Our Lord is the source, supply and strength of a healthy spiritual life and growth. Then we will not stumble or abandon our faith in times of stress and struggle. When we understand in whom we believe and why we believe Him, we will inherit an unshakable faith that will weather any storms of life.
