The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one.

John 17:22 (ESV)

In His prayer, Jesus declared that He has given us the same glory that our Father God has given Him. By doing so, Jesus connects us to the Trinity and to one another as one family and community. As a result, if you believe it, unity is possible and can happen, not because of any of us, but because Christ has brought us together.

We have all the glory we could ever need because we already have Jesus' glory dwelling within us. If we don't fully comprehend the implications of our glory-filled life in Christ, our prayers sound more like requests for more faith, power, or anointing than praises that we already have everything we need to glorify God in Christ.

We pray from ignorance at times. We should pray from the perspective of our identity and inheritance in Christ. When we pray in obedience to the revelation of who we are and what we have in Christ, our prayers are restful and not stressful. They are bold prayers, and full of thanksgiving and expectancy.

Consider these words of the Apostle Paul:

You see, He knew those who would be His one day, and He chose them beforehand to be conformed to the image of His Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of a new family of believers, all brothers and sisters. As for those He chose beforehand, He called them to a different destiny so that they would experience what it means to be made right with God and share in His glory.

Romans 8:29-30, The Voice

We are not supposed to blend in, but rather to stand out!

Recognizing that we have received the glory of our sonship in Christ, we must learn to reflect that glory to everyone everywhere. As we grow in our understanding of sonship, we will experience increasing authority and power to live and act in Jesus' name. Even if we don't talk about Jesus, people can sense something different about us when we carry this confident awareness into our daily lives and relationships.

Be a partaker of God's glory, not a chaser of God's glory.

Just as Christ's reputation preceded Him, our reputation should precede us to the point where people outside the church can recognise and glorify God for the shining light of Christ's glory that is working in and through us. 5:16 (Matthew)
