The gospel is good news.

God didn’t wait for us to be perfect or to be at our best before He reached out to bring us back into relationship with Him. God initiated and provided the means to save us through His Son Jesus while we were still sinners and when we were most alienated from God and hostile in our thinking and action towards Him.

Jesus embodied God’s nature of love—and He demonstrated God’s love for the world through His sacrificial and selfless act on the Cross. God was revealing to us through His Son that we are worthy of love, not because of what we do or can do but because of the worth God placed on us.

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 ESV

The finished work of the Cross is God’s designated provision to reconcile us to Him and His indelible invitation to restore us to live a faithful, fruitful and fulfilling life for Him.

Jesus so fully and completely settled our debt of sin that God can legitimately declared us righteous, as if we have never sinned in the first place. Praise God that He does not treat us according to what we deserve. But rather, God overwhelmingly chooses to forgive us so that we can confidently stand before Him holy, blameless and above reproach.

Our right standing in Christ has both a purifying effect and empowering effect. It not only provides for us everything we need for godly living and service, but it also produces in us the impetus and confidence to do so. In receiving and living in the revelation of the gospel we will grow from grace to grace. This is because from the moment God begins His good work in us, He will continue to complete us until Christ returns in final victory.
