There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.

1 John 4:198-19 (ESV)

Have you ever wondered what God thinks of you when you return to your old sinful habits or add a few new ones? Do you believe God is angry, upset, or ashamed of you because you have repeatedly messed up? Or do you believe God is still good to you even if you feel a complete lack of faith?

Many Christians believe that God is deeply disappointed in them or that their failures to overcome sin and temptation have disqualified them from serving God. Few people believe God still loves them despite their sin. They are feeling or thinking this way because they have not understood the gospel. And they will continue to struggle to earn God's love and acceptance until they return to the basic gospel truth that God loves us unconditionally, without limit or condition.

Such believers tend to centre their lives and actions on sin rather than Christ. A sin-obsessed life stunts spiritual growth, health, and vibrancy. To reverse the tide of the false assumption that God's love is contingent on our spiritual conditions or performance, we must make our relationship with God the first and most important reality of our Christian life, rather than sin or personal failures.

We must remove all artificial barriers that stand between God and us, because nothing can ever separate us from God's everlasting love (Romans 8:39). Being fully convinced of this truth allows you to live each day without fear or guilt.

Living with God entails resting in His perfect love. It is more than simply spending time with God, but it is about knowing God without hurry or shortcuts. It is to make opportunities for yourself to discover God's amazing love again and again, and to be surprised by it each time.
