I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord.

Psalm 40:1-4, New Living Translation

Have you been feeling, at times, that it is difficult to praise God?

We will lose sight of worship when our friendship and relationship with God is based more on our circumstances than on God's character and ability. In Psalm 40, David encourages us to sing a new song to God as we wait patiently for His deliverance and restoration.

Instead of grumbling over the same old complaints or crying over the same old problems, try singing a new song of praise to the Lord. Praise is not really rooted in what we do, but in who we are. We are made in Christ "to proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light" (1 Peter 2:9)

Praising God unknot the twist and tension of your heart in order for you to move forward with a new sense of freedom and boldness. Often times, God changes us before He changes our circumstances. If you are engulfed with problems and struggles, start praising God and the fear and negative thoughts will begin to disappear. Worrying cannot accomplish anything but worshipping brings God into the scene. Paul and Silas prayed and sang and God delivered them from the dungeon (Acts 16:25-26).

If we worship only when we feel like it then we won't grow in our faith and love of God.

Practice an attitude of praise and gratitude in any situation and you will see God transforming that situation to your favour. Praise is a posture of faith and a way of living that honours God. When we sing to the Lord the new song in times of trials and tribulations, there is a greater measure of faith and trust in God. It is through our praise that God reveals Himself. That helps us to understand and appreciate who God is and who God wants to be to us so that we can experience Him intimately and regularly.
