Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)
Avodah is the Hebrew word for the seamless life designed by God in which work, worship, and service are intricately intertwined. This convergence, the union of three fundamentals of life, allows us to have a more profound experience with God. In other words, our relationship with God is much more than a Sunday experience; it is a daily experience of intimate communion with Him.
God never intended that we separate our work from our worship and service. They belong together and go together. When we do them separately, we are overwhelmed with too much to do and too little time to do them. That is where the burden of guilt and the fear of disappointing God, our family, and our community enter the picture.
If we don't return to God's original intent and purpose for us, we will experience feelings of growing anger and frustration. This, in turn, affects the way we work and the way we think of our work, as well as how we relate to God through our worship and service. When we actively recognise God's presence and reign in the workplace, everything we do flows naturally and supernaturally from what God is doing in and through us.
Jesus was busy, but He never felt rushed.
As the perfect example of what it means to live the Avodah life, He invites us to come and rest with Him. Our rest in Christ enables us to transform our work, worship, and service into an abiding life of faithfulness and fruitfulness. This is the most authentic way to live because we are being true to who we are and what we are meant to be in Christ.
