The gospel declares that it is for freedom that Christ has set you free

Galatians 5:1

The freedom that He won is both absolute and complete. There is nothing more for you to do, but to simply accept the truth and put your trust in His finished work.

Have you ever wondered: If Christ really came to set you free, how come you don’t always experience it in your daily life? Why do we continue to struggle day after day with the same sinful habits, worries of life and the same shortcomings we have disliked and fought against for a long time? Why do we find it a challenge to truly live in the complete freedom that we have in Christ?

To enjoy that freedom in Christ, we need a clear understanding of what Christ has accomplished through His finished work. The more we hear it, understand and believe in the truth of His life given to each and every one of us, the more we appreciate and appropriate this freedom into our lives.

For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:17

What Christ has done for you outweighs what Adam has done to you. Your salvation is a recovery of the life God has always intended for you. Your rightful purpose is to reign in life through Christ. It is through His grace and righteousness that you are empowered to experience freedom in your life and even its challenges. When you lose focus of this revelation, you can let negative feelings get the better of you.

Too often believers seek an emotional fix to their spiritual problems. They would go from one church meeting to another looking for “a deeper experience” instead of recognising their true identity as God’s sons and daughters. Spiritual encounters, seminars and sermons are valid if they point you to Jesus, but when they cause you to focus on yourself rather than Jesus, then the gospel is no longer preached or proclaimed.

Every time you feel defeated by life, reflect on the truth of the gospel once again. Your ability to reign in life comes from a personal relationship with Christ. Believe in Him and He will enable you to live in the reality of His grace and righteousness many times, in many powerful ways.
