By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.

Hebrews 11:17-19 (NIV)

Obedience is ultimately loving God.

We love because God loved us first and continues to love us. This is why there is freedom in obedience because love never coerce or compel. Love always invites and welcomes. When we are embraced by Perfect Love Himself, we feel both safe and empowered to obey readily.

To obey is to decisively listen to God and do all that He says. It is a steadfast faithfulness to God and the consequential fruit of a personal and intimate relationship with God. Obedience comes by faith. When we choose to obey God's perfect will, God will provide us with the grace to do all that is right by Him.

Choosing when to obey and when not to obey God will lead to haphazard spiritual life. This is the sad reality for many Christians. To obey is to change. If we have to wait to see how we feel before we obey Gpd, then we are giving away a future that is God-blessed. Then we will grow weary and stagnant because we are not ushering in what God has prepared for us.

Though he was severely tested by God’s command to offer up Isaac, Abraham’s unquestioning obedience was prompt and complete. God did not test Abraham to learn whether he had true faith, Rather, it was an opportunity for Abraham to discover just how far his faith has come. Thus, it is not surprising that he was called “the father of faith”.

Obedience enables us to hear God more clearly and consistently in your life. You might think you are going to lose everything, but God will richly reward you for your obedience.
