Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24 English Standard Version

Each of us needs to find the one purpose that brings out our passion.

Jesus discovered His purpose through an intimate knowledge of God’s Word and intimate connection with God. And likewise, we are to do the same. Proverbs 29:18 tells us when we lack revelation from God’s Word, it is easy to disengage or mindlessly steer away from God and feel quite lost in purpose and direction.

Purpose comes from discovering our identity of being in Christ and passion flows from a life true to who we are and what we carry inside us. Purpose enables you to identify open doors and helps you to recognise many amazing opportunities. It feeds faith and starves fear. It keeps you on track and stops you from quitting too early. It makes you feel close and connected to God because it directs your heart to do the things that bring God glory. It also inspires you to leave behind a legacy of faith for others to follow.

Being faithful to the little things gives us the clarity and faith to move forward to our God-designed future with passion and energy and commitment. You will then realise your purpose is not one big thing you have done or going to do. Rather, it is by connecting the dots of life that the next step of your purpose takes shape.

Consider Philip. He was directed by an angel to go to the desert road. He was not given the details as to what might happen, but he went, nevertheless. We all know that he met an Ethiopian eunuch, and the rest is history.

You do your best work when you truly give time to discover your identity and destiny in Christ. It is on this basis that you realise the huge difference between being purposeful and being busy. We live in a world that worships busyness and we wrap our egos around it. However, a purposeful life in Christ offers you freedom from false priorities and false sense of worth and transforms you to live productively and responsibly.

If you feel you are stuck in a rut right now, hear the gospel again and rejoice in the truth of who you are as God’s beloved son or daughter.
