Pray like this; Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9-10 (NLT)

Prayer does not change the heart of God. This is because God knows what He is doing, and He is already ahead of us. We are the ones who need to catch up. In other words, prayer is not getting through to God but God getting through to us.

Too often, prayer is underrated.

When we don’t pray, we can’t see what God has already done or what He is about to do. But when we do, we’re more aware than ever of God’s supernatural presence and power at work within us. That’s why we pray because there’s so much more yet to be done within us so that Christ’s glory can shine through us for all the world to see.

We need to believe in God more than our present circumstances.

This is not an easy thing to do. We want things to happen our way. Trying to control everything is a sign of fear. When Jesus asks us to pray for God’s will to be done, it is for our benefit. Why? Because when we pray, we bring God's preferred future into our present situation of life. Even as we wait for our Lord's return, we can now gladly rejoice that present suffering is nothing compared with the glory that awaits us and within us. (cf. Romans 8:18)

Learn to pray with a Kingdom focus.

We are not spectators but participants in the Kingdom. Through prayer, the Kingdom moves forward with power and authority. And out of this prayer we live as ambassadors of Christ, becoming more active and intentional in sharing the good news of Christ and doing good everywhere we go.
