And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 6:13 (NKJV)

According to Jesus, God will not lead us into temptation and that He will also deliver us from the tempter. The Greek word for "deliver" is rhyomai which means "to snatch". Therefore, when we pray, we are asking God to snatch us from the clutches of the devil and to protect us from all harms and dangers.

If we want to be delivered from evil—and the Evil One, we must constantly pray for deliverance. Praying for deliverance is an exercise of your freedom in Christ. Satan cannot take advantage of us when we are completely rooted in the truth of what Christ has done for us. Then no temptation can overwhelm us beyond our ability to resist and overcome.

Prayer is not an obligatory function, such as something we do before eating or taking an exam. Rather, prayer is our weapon and means of defeating Satan in Jesus' name. We can see an example of Jesus telling his disciples to "pray that you will not fall into temptation" (Luke 22:39). In other words, God will not abandon us when we are tempted. Rather, our Father in heaven comes to our aid, saving us from Satan's malice and schemes.

Purpose yourself to regularly pray each day for your spiritual and physical well-being. Pray without ceasing. Do invite others to pray for you and with you. This is what Apostle Paul did. He relied on the power of prayer to combat the power of darkness. Prayer enabled him to discern and overcome demonic oppositions. As a result, he often emerged victorious in spiritual battles.

Through his personal victories, Paul was able to teach the churches how to experience Christ's victory over Satan in their daily lives. He told the Corinthians: "It’s my duty to make sure that Satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes." 2 Corinthians 2:11 (Voice). In this regard, it is always good to pray for spiritual insight and victory in your daily life.
