Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

Mark 11:9-10 New International Version

The story of the crowd welcoming Jesus with palm leaves and loud praise demonstrates that it is always easy to worship when you are surrounded by others. But what happens to worship when you're alone?

Worship is both a personal and a communal experience. You, however, cannot rely on or expect others to make you into a worshipper. While they may be able to inspire or motivate you, it is solely up to you to choose to worship God with love and sincerity.

Worship reveals our heartfelt opinion of God.

God is not an egotistical megalomaniac Divine Being who demands your worship because He feels insecure. God is your heavenly Father. Jesus says that when you receive the Son, you also receive the Father (John 13:20).

Many believers struggle to worship because they have a poor understanding of God. This tension comes from a place of hurt or fracture. The strain will impede their worship even more unless their understanding of God is healed. This was why it was so easy for the crowd in Jerusalem to switch sides. Without a genuine relationship with Christ, they could accept Him one day and reject Him the next.

Jesus came to reveal God's Father's heart. His death on the Cross was to restore your heart to God our Father. You are created to worship because the Spirit has filled your heart with the spirit of sonship. Sonship promotes intimacy and confidence in your relationship with God.

When you worship as a child of God, you will never feel safer or more secure. Sometimes you wish God for a road map to help you navigate the perils and pitfalls of life's highway. But the truth is that God provides you with something far more valuable than a road map. God has promised to be your personal guide who will never forsake you or abandon you.

No matter how hectic life can be at times, keep worshipping because you have a most loving God who will never abandon you but will provide for your every need.
