By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

1 John 5:2-3 (ESV)

The word, obedience comes from the Latin word "ob-audire" which means to hear or to listen. Our obedience to God should not be complicated or difficult. But if it turns to be burdensome, it is because we make obedience a means of earning love, rather than a fruit of love.

The unfailing love of the Lord is the true source of our obedience. The deeper our understanding of how much God loves us, the easier it will be to obey Him. When we have complete confidence in Him, we will be able to love what He wants us to love and follow his way.

The Apostle John tells us the love of God is the true source of our obedience. The more we know we are loved by Him, the easier we obey Him. With complete confidence in Him, we will learn to love what God wants for us and follow His leading.

God has given us the Holy Spirit, also known as the Spirit of truth, who lives inside us. He is far more effective than a burning bush or a talking donkey when it comes to hearing, recognising and obeying the voice of God. The reason we can understand and obey God is because we have the mind of Christ. His Spirit will open your spiritual eyes to see what God is doing and discern His inviting voice to work with Him.

Be assured each time you respond to what God said in His Word, He will empower you to act in obedience. In other words, we don’t need a special anointing to obey God’s word. It would be a mistake if we need a “rhema” word or a “special” sign every time before we act. Don’t look for the sensational and miss out on the supernatural.

Listen to what God says in His Scripture, and let His Spirit fill you with discernment and direction. When you choose to recognize His way, the things that matter to God becomes more and more clear.
