Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

Matthew 2:1-2 (NKJV)

Many people believe they are too intelligent for God. To them, believing in God and His desire for a relationship with us is only for fools and ignorant people. The story of Jesus' birth, on the other hand, paints a different picture.

The Apostle Matthew describes how wise men searched for Jesus in order to worship Him. They were too intelligent not to believe. These wise men, or magi, were the most prominent academics and intellectuals of their time. They travelled far from the East, following the star that had gone before them, in search of the Christ Child.

After a series of significant events, they finally found the One they were looking for. They worshipped Jesus as a king even though He was still an infant by laying their gold, myrrh, and frankincense treasures before Him. Laying treasures was their way of recognising someone greater than all of them in their midst.

These wise men portray worship for us: laying down our minds and intellects for God to consecrate them for His glory. His Holy Spirit has the ability to transform your mindset and stir you to a whole new way of thinking that does not conform to the world's conventional wisdom and reason. This kind of wisdom cannot be found anywhere else.

No matter how wise the wisdom of this world appears to be, it is fundamentally flawed and prone to misinformation because it stems from man's fallen nature. Instead learn to shape your thoughts around God's wisdom, which is revealed through the revelation of His grace and truth in Christ.

God's wisdom is faultless and will never return to Him unless it has served its purpose. Godly wisdom brings such clarity and stability that you will be able to see things differently and thus act and respond differently. Choose to live in a world that is confused, divided, and broken with incredible wisdom, and wisdom will give you something to hope for that will not disappoint you.
