The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (MEV)

The Christmas story is the incredible story of God becoming like us in the Person of Jesus Christ. This is referred to as the Incarnation, in which Jesus the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He became a real man, had a real birth, a real life, and a real death.

It is amazing to think about how Jesus was conceived in Mary's womb. People were struck dead simply by touching the Ark of the Covenant in the Old Testament, but Mary was able to carry God in her womb. Mary serves as a precursor to Christ coming into us and working in us through His Spirit.

Even though He was God's only begotten and eternal Son, Jesus came as a helpless babe, uniting Himself with our humanity. Thus, there is no human experience or condition that Jesus did not fully feel or understand. He not only understood our sinful pain and would embrace it Himself and overcome it through His victory.

Jesus identifies and empathises with us.

Your story is in His story.

While we continue to struggle and suffer as we await His complete and final victory over sin and its greater power, death — we can enjoy the blessings and benefits of His atoning work now.

Let us find comfort in knowing that we have a Saviour who has gone before us and will be with us during life's tests and trials. This gives us the confidence and courage to pray and expect favourable answers without fear of disappointment.
