And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, [Jesus] departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Mark 1:32-35 (NKJV)

We live in an incredibly busy world.

When work consumes so much of our time and thought, it might be difficult to find a moment to be still with God. Our issue isn't that we don't have time for God. It is about our unwillingness to live with God.

If you've ever felt driven to spend some alone time with the Lord and your first thought is, "What can I get out of it?" then your relationship with God is more about incentives than intimacy. It's like a trade-off; if you keep your end of the bargain by giving God a few minutes every day, God will keep His end of the bargain and reward you.

This attitude, if not corrected, will trap you in a performance-based approach to God. You are relying on your own efforts to please God here, rather than believing in and living by God's grace to accomplish what will please Him. Because Jesus spent so much time with the Father, He became aware of His Father's purpose and power. As a result, our Lord always did what God told Him to do, bringing glory and honour to the Father in the process.

God always has time for you.

God will show you and teach you how to walk in your call as you learn to walk attentively and faithfully with Him. Then you'll learn more about what it means to collaborate with God and thrive in all aspects of your life and relationships. You get so close to God that you choose to accomplish anything He asks of you, no matter how small or large. Not only that, but you have a deep delightful joy within you, an almost unimaginable joy since you experience true love and kinship with the Father God. For at that moment, you realised the glorious truth of what it means to be God's loving son or daughter.
