Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:7-11 English Standard Version

No matter what time of the day it is, God is always in a good mood and always has something encouraging and exciting to share with us. We can be sure of this because Jesus says God is good and gives good gifts to His children.

God is incredibly good, far better and greater than what we can imagine or understand.

Yet, somehow we sometimes lose faith and feel unworthy to ask our Father for anything. We need to overcome the orphan spirit that stifles our trust in God and rest in the truth that God will never disappoint us. God will not contradict His nature or act unrighteously towards us. God will not give us anything which He knows will lead us to feel a lack of love and acceptance. Rather God gives us good gifts so we can enjoy them and use them for His glory.

What are good gifts that God gives?

In Luke 11:13, Jesus says if children can expect good gifts from their earthly and imperfect parents, how much more we should expect our Heavenly Father to give His best gift, the Holy Spirit to us, if we ask. With the Spirit's presence and power working in and through us, God is guaranteeing that we can start living the best life ever on this side of heaven.

With the Spirit's help, we can walk so intimately with God and become like Him in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life. We will be so supernaturally aligned to God's heart that we will act according to God's will and live consistently as His sons and daughters. If we truly live by this gospel truth, we will realise holiness and holy living is not a goal, but a fruit and manifestation of the life of the Spirit dwelling within us.

Holiness changes the way we see God and how we relate to Him. There is no fear of ever disappointing God because we are secured in our standing before God through His grace, not by our performance or achievements. Then our prayers and worship and service are not obligations, but opportunities to experience intimacy with God and enjoy all He has for us.
