My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

Proverbs 4:20-22 World English Bible

When the feelings of fear and despair grows in us, they reveal what we have been feeding on lately. But we will flourish and be fruitful when we learn to feed and nourish on God’s Word daily. After all, God’s Word is the wellspring of life, health and healing.

Often, we struggle to understand how the scripture helps us to grow and mature spiritually. We ought to remind ourselves that God’s word is alive and active. It is more than stories of God and instructions from God. Rather God embedded His presence and power in those stories and instructions so that you might experience scriptural truth in a personal way.

The more we meditate and reflect on God’s promises, the more we see changes in our lives. It is always good to study and search out the truth of God’s Word and declare the revelations you received over your life and situations. Remember, Jesus already qualified us to receive every blessing from God, and thus we rely on His Spirit to help us bring our lives under the light of God’s Word.

Interact with God’s Word in the same way Jesus did.

Jesus found His identity, purpose and mission in the scroll of Isaiah and lived accordingly. If we are to do the same, our lives become both a message and mission of God’s grace to a world deeply in need of it.

We, however, must avoid making the Bible into something to be worshipped. Bibliolatry is just as wrong as any other form of idolatry. This was the sin of the Pharisees. They knew the written word, but they didn’t know the Living Word. Their spiritual downfall was due to their silencing of the Spirit in the studying of Scripture.

A genuine knowledge and understanding of Scripture point us towards Jesus Himself. And the Holy Spirit will open our eyes of understanding so that we may gain insight to the reality of a life in Christ.
