I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 (NIV)
We are blessed to bear as much fruit as Jesus enables us.
This happens because of two reasons. We live in Jesus and Jesus live in us. As we continually receive and release the power of His life within us, spiritual growth happens naturally and inevitably. In other words, we were made to flourish and thrive in Christ so to “grow up in all things into Him” (Ephesians 4:15).
Jesus is the ultimate source of our spiritual life.
His life in us changes us.
When we put our hearts and minds on Jesus, He strengthens our ability to experience His life abiding in us. We bear fruit in Christ and with Him, not apart from Him. In this way, the Christian life is a life of adventure. This adventure is an ever-increasing faith that leads us to rest deeper so we can live fuller.
Spiritual growth is God’s will for us.
Rather than being indifference or complacent, we must learn to grow from the revelation of who we are and what we have in Christ. As you grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ, you will enjoy such a close communion of life and love with Him. Our union with Christ opens the capacity for more growth and more depth in our relationship with Him. It is through this continuing journey with Him that we gain a clear understanding of what it means to be one with Christ.
Knowing our life is integrated with Christ enables us to function as one with Christ as our Lord. There is no fear of failure or fear of the future when you live in and from His fullness. This freedom will lead us to a greater work of loving others and serving them well.
