If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:11 (ESV)

Worship is more than a Sunday experience.

It is a lifestyle of being pursued by God and pursuing God in return. A lot of what we see in worship these days is a “highly manufactured” experience. We are overly reliant on external elements, such as lighting and sound, to evoke a sense of awe and devotion. In the process, we are turning worship into a consumer product for ourselves to enjoy—not the giving of ourselves for God’s glory. That makes it easy to choose the kind of worship we like, making it more about us than about honouring God.

Worship is the whole sum of the Christian life.

Once you come to understand this truth and start living by it, you will learn to treat every experience of life as an opportune worship experience. It is deeply transformative. Consider what your life would have been like if you function in the marketplace as a worshipper rather than a worker. Or if you approach each of life's challenges and conflicts as a worshipper rather than as a worrier.

True worship opens our eyes and minds to God’s surprising work in our midst.

Instead of becoming distracted by the happenings around us, maintain the posture of worship and surrender as you lean on God to lead you. This enables you to live towards a life more in keeping with God’s idea of rest. Our worship then becomes intimate and genuine. It produces in us a simplicity and pureness as well as directness and boldness to believe God. Rather than a distant figure who exists on a different spiritual reality, we will start seeing God as our most loving Father who meets us in our need and knows how to “give good things to those who ask Him.”
