We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin."

Romans 6:6, New International Version

Christ died to atone for your sin and set you free from it.

The bondage of sin was broken when Christ crucified your old sinful nature with Him. This means sin lost its power over you because you are now a new creation in Christ. You have a new nature and new desire given by God to please God and do His will.

Though sin no longer reigns over you, sinful thoughts and habits can still undermine your faith and plague you with fear, guilt, shame and unbelief unless you walk in your freedom in Christ. Such freedom is possible—because you have the reality of Christ's victory in living you.

You can overcome every sinful obstacle by walking in the truth that you are more than a conqueror in Christ (Romans 8:37). Most of the time, we sinned as a result of restlessness and unconscious frustration. Be aware that the devil will repeatedly take the opportunity to tempt you to sin because he is the personification of restlessness. He will do everything in his power to undermine your faith and hinder your progress.

Bear in mind that Jesus defeated Satan on the cross and our rest in His perfect and finished work is the most effective weapon against a conquered foe. If we fear Satan and do not walk in the reality of Christ’s victory, the devil will continue to ensnare us in sin and keep us from enjoying all we have in Christ.

One of Satan’s favourite tactics is to make you focus on yourself and feel sorry for yourself. The more you focus on yourself, the more distracted and restless you become and the more likely you are to fall for the lies of the Enemy. Then the devil can easily intimidate you and hold you captive through fear.

Rest in Christ by resting in the gospel. Satan and sin cannot overcome a child of God who knows their identity and inheritance in Christ. This is your portion of a better covenant with better promises.
