Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

1 Timothy 1:13-15 (ESV)

While every believer is aware of their mission, unfortunately, not all of them will fulfill it. It has nothing to do with the lack of time, training, or resources, but rather a lack of obedience to what God has already called them to do. The Apostle Paul reminded Timothy of Phygelus and Hermogenes who were once church leaders, but they have lost their faith and are going the wrong way.

It is both a tragedy and travesty when believing disciples stopped following Jesus. They let hurt, personal issues or tough times get in the way of their faith and stop them from growing in the Lord. We will all stumble at times, but the most important thing is to keep believing in God no matter what.

Paul told Timothy to follow him as he followed Christ.

To follow Christ is to listen to Him and do what He says. Like in the case of Paul, it may not lead to a life of convenience or comfort, but it will surely be a life that is fully satisfied in Christ alone. This holy satisfaction is yours when He is your greatest desire and delight. Then no disappointment or loss can rob you of your identity and security in Christ.
