Yet, my brothers, I do not consider myself to have “arrived”, spiritually, nor do I consider myself already perfect. But I keep going on, grasping ever more firmly that purpose for which Christ grasped me. My brothers, I do not consider myself to have fully grasped it even now. But I do concentrate on this; I leave the past behind and with hands outstretched to whatever lies ahead I go straight for the goal—my reward the honour of being called by God in Christ.

Philippians 3:12-14 (Phillips)

The Christian life is an exciting journey of many encounters with Jesus.

Don't settle for what you already know about Him. Rather, continually seek insight, wisdom and knowledge in order to deepen your walk with our Lord. The fruit of intimacy is an open obedience of listening to Jesus and doing what He says. Obedience gives us a greater sense of faith, trust and security in Him who is able to do far more than what we ask or imagine.

In the New Testament, every close and personal encounter with Jesus changes the person’s perspective of God, themselves, and others. No encounter is ever an exclusive or self-aggrandizing experience. It will transform our perceptions of God, ourselves, and others. Both Peter and Paul are examples of people who had to adjust their assumptions about how God works in the world around them. Their willingness to obey opens up new opportunities to impact lives they never imagined possible.

Despite his many encounters of Jesus and many accomplishments in His name, Paul never outgrew his experience of Jesus. Consider what he wrote to the Philippians:

It takes a lot of humility and willingness to put Jesus first.

When we choose to follow Him, we do not lose ourselves or our freedom. Indeed, we will realise our true identity and freedom in Christ, and all that it entails. Listen to your life right now and discern what Jesus is saying to you in those places where you need a refreshing encounter of His presence and power. Just ask, and He will meet you where you need Him most.
