See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception…you are complete in Him.

Colossians 2:8,10 (NKJV)

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

To start, we must comprehend Christ's totality, being fully divine and fully human. It entails having faith that Christ—and Christ alone—is completely capable of saving us. The Greek word for “complete” is plēroō which means “fill to the brim, make full”. We do not need to add any good deeds or anything else to increase the certainty of our salvation. If you keep Christ in His proper place, you will receive all of His fullness to deal with every situation that causes you to be fearful in your relationship with God.

Our salvation is fully and irrevocably secured in Christ.

Paul tells us in Colossians that if we don't understand what it means to be fully in Christ, we might be easily deceived by ideas and arguments that will make us doubt Christ and His saving power.

There are believers who have lost the joy of their freedom in Christ because they have been taken captive and enslaved by thoughts that divert their focus from the person and finished work of Christ. Some of these ideas seem reasonable or logical at first, but when you hold them up to the light of the gospel truth, you realise that they are not biblical or sound. This keeps them from totally relying on the Lord, who is their one and only source of fulfilment.

You are really and truly and complete in Christ.

The Christian life is not about attaining a goal but about living out the truth of who we are and what we have in Christ. We will enjoy true security and serenity when we truly learn to rest in the gospel in our daily lives. The more we comprehend our completeness in Christ, the more we will comprehend our true worth in the sight of God.
