For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 9:13-15 (NKJV)

Jesus qualifies as the Mediator of the New Covenant because He is both fully divine and fully human, enabling Him to perfectly represent both God and humanity and mediate between them. His death opened a new and living way for us to enjoy a new relationship with God, in which His Spirit transforms us to love our Father as He loves us.

Unlike the Old Covenant, which relied on endless sacrifices to cover sin, the New Covenant rests on the one perfect sacrifice of Jesus, which not only forever removes the penalty of sin but also enable us to receive the eternal promise of God.

God's eternal promise to us is that He will be our God, and we shall be His people forever. As the Mediator of a better covenant with better promises, Jesus perfects us before God, as if we had never sinned. He did this by imputing His righteousness to us. Thus, God no longer remembers us based on our sin, but according to Christ's perfect work.

Knowing that God is for us gives us hope.

We no longer worry about whether we are accepted and acceptable to God. Our desire to please God is based on God's love for us, rather than on our own efforts to earn His love. This flows from a joyful confidence in truth of our sonship and identity in Christ.
