The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty," leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”

Romans 8:14-17 (TPT)

As God's sons and daughters, we have all the rights and privileges that come with knowing Him as Father. This authentic relationship with God allows us to discover our identity, inheritance, sense of destiny, and purpose. However, we can develop an orphan spirit in which we seek God's approval rather than receiving it.

An orphan spirit means living in your own sense of identity and reality, apart from God. It is about refusing to give up control and not trusting God because of personal insecurities and fear. As a result, believers with an orphan spirit experience feelings of self-defeat and rejection. This makes it easy for doubt and uncertainty to prevent them from maturing into the fullness of Christ.

We cannot relate to God on our own terms. The more we appreciate God’s grace, the more we will live and walk in repentance. Repentance is not associated with feelings of guilt or regret. It delves much deeper. Our ability to repent both demonstrates and expresses our sonship and adoption in Christ.

True sons and daughters of God understand the importance of repentance. It flows from a deep desire to be like the Father because of our love for Him. Repentance or returning to God restores our ability to live life with the mind of Christ.

To have the mind of Christ means approaching and overcoming every situation and challenge with the mindset and attitude of a beloved child of God. Then victory and deliverance are assured because you are focused on a Perfect Father who will never forget or forsake you.
