For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

2 Timothy 1:7 (Amplified)

The Holy Spirit is given to dwell within us when we receive salvation.

According to the Apostle Paul, the Spirit does not produce an inordinate fear that leads to timidity or cowardice. Rather, the Spirit gives us courageous power or fearlessness and works in us love and sound judgement to face whatever we are going through right now. His intention is to bring our will, emotions and intellect into alignment with the mind of Christ so that we can think, feel and act in ways that honour and glorify Him.

We must learn to grow in our understanding of God as the source of our identity, security, and significance. We are blessed with a divine advantage over everything that comes our way because the Spirit of perfect love is dwelling and abiding in us.

The Spirit cast away our fears and worries as we walk with Him and follow His leading. He does it through the following ways. First, He renews our will (thoughts and attitudes) with the truth of God's power, promises and provisions. Second, He nourishes your emotions with God's love. Third, He instills our judgement with God's wisdom. Then no guilt, worry or intimidation can touch us because we know we are safe and secure in the loving arms of a gracious God. Moreover, we receive fresh grace and strength to resist temptations and endure trials.

We need the Holy Spirit more than we realise in this current climate of fear and dread, and we must continue to nurture intimacy and depth in our relationship with God.
