Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Philippians 2:12-13 English Standard Version

The Apostle Paul tells us that we are to “work out” or live out the life of Christ that is in us. He is not saying that we are to work for our salvation — which we play absolutely no part in it. Rather we are to willingly keep on living out the truth and the implications of Christ’s finished work on the Cross. After all, the power of God and the Holy Spirit lives in us and He is working in and through us to will and do the good pleasure of God.

The good pleasure of God is that we become like His Son who does all things to please the Father. Pleasing God is something we should immensely desire and want to do, but something we cannot do on our own. That desire is God’s design for us but the will to do is God’s action in us. And if we are prepared for God to transform us through His Holy Spirit, the Christian life is an effortless experience of Christ living and manifesting through us.

By walking in the light of this truth, you will stop struggling with the question of am I pleasing God enough? This is because such a question negates the work of God's grace in your life and becomes a waste of time and effort.

We cannot but fill with awe and wonder that Christ fills us with the full measure of Himself. And when we learn to walk with Christ every day, prayer and worship and service stops being laborious and hard and becomes easy and light. Instead of feeling burnout and drained, you feel God’s good pleasure in everything you do. There is such a content satisfaction and complete delight because you are abiding in Christ’s abundant life to bear fruit.

When your focus is on Christ, then your focus becomes your priority, and your priority will be where Christ wants you to grow and be fruitful in love.
