Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22, New International Version

It is crucial to understand the relationship of the Triune God with us.

The Father, the Son and the Spirit are three distinct Persons yet are One in the Trinity. Though all have the same attributes and qualities, each Person of the Godhead is different in role and relationship with respect to the other two. Yet they will not act or work independently but together for our salvation and spiritual growth.

What we believe about God is essentially important. We will either grow in freedom and courage or we become fearful and resentful. The Apostle Paul encourages the Corinthians to carefully consider the distinction and relationship of the Godhead, and how they are working to bring us into fellowship within themselves.

Sometimes Christians behave and think as if there is disunity in the Trinity. The Father is constantly angry or upset with us. Jesus is forever placating the Father and trying to warm His heart towards us. The Holy Spirit is fixated on convicting us of sins that are already and fully forgiven. This makes the Christian life one big guilt trip with a heavy baggage to carry.

The Father’s true nature of love is perfectly revealed through Jesus’ perfect work on the cross. As such, the Holy Spirit will never communicate using guilt, shame or condemnation. Such feelings are not from God, and if they are not promptly dealt with, they will affect how you love, believe or pursue God. When we see how the Trinity genuinely works in tandem for our good, we will be transformed in the divine process of becoming more like Jesus.

Let the revelation of God’s love be your motivation. God is love and His heart toward us is as unchangeable as His eternal being. This makes your friendship and relationship with God restful and gives you the grace to walk as a true son or daughter.
