On one occasion, a leper came and threw himself down in front of Jesus, pleading for his healing, saying, “You have the power to heal me right now if only you really want to!” Being deeply moved with tender compassion, Jesus reached out and touched the skin of the leper and told him, “Of course I want you to be healed—so now, be cleansed!”

Mark 1:40-41, The Passion Translation

The gospel writer Mark describes how a leper sought healing from Jesus.

This ill man believed Jesus had the power to heal, but he wasn't sure if Jesus would. You can't blame him for feeling that way after being a victim of rejection and hopelessness for so long. Jesus was filled with compassion for the leper and He promptly stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing, be cleansed." The man was instantly cured of his dreaded disease.

Sometimes we think like this leper in the story.

We know God is capable of doing anything, but we are unsure whether He is willing to do something for us. God is more willing than you realise. By sending Jesus to suffer in your place, God demonstrates His great love for you. The undeserving death of Jesus opens the floodgates for everyone to freely experience God's deep mercy like never before. This is because His shed blood enables us to enjoy a new covenant with richer promises and privileges (cf. Hebrews 7:22 and Hebrews 8:6).

Whenever we are confronted by the conundrum of suffering or challenged by the problem of pain, it is tempting to doubt and question God’s faithfulness. Instead of imagining that God has abandoned you, just rest in the revealed truth that God will never leave or forsake you. Even if you can't figure out God's purpose, trust that He already knows what yours is. And, even if you feel stuck in life, God will position you to experience His favour.

It takes humility to believe in God and His Word.

Take advantage of every opportunity to grow out of the smallness of your faith by focusing on the greatness of His love. Live your life based on your faith in God, not on your feelings or circumstances. Always be fully assured that God is always willing and fully capable to meet your every need.
