For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He corrects each one He takes as His own.

Hebrews 12:6 (VOICE)

Pray for a teachable spirit so that you can respond to God's leading with steadfast obedience.

An unteachable spirit was one of the many reasons why the children of Israel failed in their first attempt to enter the Promised Land. Due to their attitude, they chose to hold the pain of their past over the possibility of their future. As a consequence, they were forced to wander for forty years in the desert in order to learn the lesson God intended to teach them.

Our reluctance to hear and heed God's call in our lives will lead to frustration and disappointment with God. Frustration may be used by the Enemy to undermine our faith and steal our joy. If we do not use God's word and the truth of what the gospel says about us to overcome frustration, we may develop a defeatist mentality. We may end up feeling like a failure when things didn’t work out or took longer than expected. This can eventually get us to give up too easily and quit too soon.

Don’t forfeit God’s best for your life because of frustration.

Instead, learn to develop the attitude and ability to endure courageously and act boldly in difficult times. Allow God to train and transform you to become more like His Beloved Son so that you can more fully identify with your true identity as a son or daughter of God. When we receive God’s discipline with a teachable spirit, we can trust God as our Father much more deeply as our love for Him grows. Then frustration will cease when our faith in God is perfected by the love of God.

A person with a teachable spirit is constantly and completely attuned to God’s presence and responsive to God’s call in the moment of daily life. It is always the right time for such a person to obey God and live righteously for His glory. After all, that is the way a well-loved child of God lives and behaves.
