For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV)

Christmas serves to remind us that God remembers us, and that God is always with us. All people can find hope in the words of the Prophet Isaiah about Jesus. Though He was born a helpless babe, Jesus possessed the immense power, strength, and might of a conquering King.

Jesus came to usher in a new era of salvation, a reign of everlasting peace and righteousness that the world has yet to fully experience. His purpose was to give us life and life more abundantly. Thus, we can rest on the promise of His presence and nearness no matter how messed up the world or our lives may be.

If God is for us, who can be against us?

As we learn to know His name, we will learn to trust Him in every area of life.

Jesus is our "Wonderful Counsellor" who consoles us when we are confused. Our "Mighty God" is Jesus, who helps us in our weakness. Jesus is like our "Everlasting Father" who meets all our needs. Jesus is our "Prince of Peace," who comforts us in our misery and pain. Continue to walk in the truth of who Jesus is to you, and you will experience a growing reality of His rule of righteousness and peace.

The good news of Christmas is that Jesus comes for us.

God in Christ chose to identify Himself with us, especially with our brokenness, fears, and sorrows. Let us therefore celebrate His coming with joyful expectation, knowing that He will come for us again.

On behalf of the Firstlight Church and my family, we wish you a most joyous Christmas and hopeful New Year. May the presence of Christ rests with you on this day and every day that follows.
