17 [God] sent a man before them—Joseph—who was sold as a slave. 18 They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. 19 Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him.
Life is not always fair and you may have all you want in life.
The person you love may not love you back. The promotion you feel you deserve goes to someone else. The perfect day you planned didn’t go to plan. You may not be able to change your circumstances but you can change what is happening in you. What seems unfair now may actually set you up for later success.
The story of Joseph is a story of a man who rose above the unfair twists and turns of his life because he trusted God even though his dreams seem to get further and further from him. The Psalmist recollected that God “tested” Joseph “until the time his word came to pass”. The original meaning of “tested” refers to the process of refining silver. God kept refining Josephs’ heart to prepare him for what was to come which in the natural realm would seem almost impossible to achieve.
Unfairness doesn’t define your life. Neither does it keep God from accomplishing all He wants to do in your life. If you believe God is in it, then you can have the confidence that He can work out all things together for your good. This explains why Joseph never blamed his brothers for his predicament because he saw God’s ultimate goodness for him and his family.
Learn to see past the unfairness and disappointment.
You are still blessed even if life throws you a bad script. This is because God’s blessings are never based on your circumstances but His character. In the same way God worked on Joseph’s heart in spite of the unfairness, God can transform you and enlarge your heart to receive all He has in store for you.
