47 Now you must go into all the nations and preach repentance and forgiveness of sins so that they will turn to me. Start right here in Jerusalem.
Luke 24:27 The Passion Translation

Many Christians like to make excuses and explain why they can’t obey Christ to grow in grace and fulfil their part in the Great Commission. In doing so, they are thinking and acting like orphans and not living up to the spirit of sonship and identity Jesus has given them. This frustrates the grace of God and prevents the gospel from reaching every corner of our city and the world.

A disciple of Jesus is one who submits to His Great Commission.

Without this submission, the Great Commission becomes the Great Omission. When that happens, we become more excited about ourselves and less about others. Our prayers, then, revolve around God blessing us—and not extending His blessing to others, especially the blessing of God’s salvation and His wonderful grace. Our ministry turns into an exhibitionistic display of our gifts, talents and abilities, and not a means of reaching those who have yet to hear for the first time who Jesus is and what He has done for them.

Being loved by Christ empowers us to truly love others as He wants us to.

Our message is to witness to our friends and family the transformational growth and change we experience in Christ. By knowing God loves us without merit and God has forgiven us without measure—we are made whole, complete and perfect in His sight. This is indeed good news!

So if the gospel is good news, why then are we afraid to proclaim it? Most times, we are afraid because people may ask us questions we cannot answer or objections we cannot counteract. Just know God is with you and He really wants you to rely on Him alone—not your smartness or skills.

Start with persistent prayer and ask God to lead you to build loving and caring relationships. Show practical love and hospitality and don’t treat your friends like a project to complete in a certain amount of time. Open your heart and home and use your spiritual gifts to demonstrate the power of the gospel. Be patient and be ready—God will not let His word return empty, but will confirm it with with inward conviction and outward signs.

Application: What is the Holy Spirit saying to me from today’s scripture reading? What is it saying about God and me and helping me in my Christian walk?
