48 “In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.”
Matthew 5:48, The Message
Having been born again you are given a new identity in Christ from which you will learn and have been empowered to live differently from before. This “learning to live differently” is your purpose in the Christian life. Your identity is not a product of your purpose but the the reason for your purpose. As your personal revelation of Christ finished work grows, it will also give you more clarity allowing you to pursue your purpose in Christ.
God makes you righteous in Christ to start you on a journey of righteousness.
Without Christ, we can be self-centered and selfish people. We become self-seeking opting to live a second choice life when we are called to a first choice life. Without Christ we would rather settle for a limiting life instead of allowing Jesus to give us God’s best.
Let’s learn from Jesus and make a decision to live fully for God.
People who spend too much time searching for their identity will often struggle for approval or hunger for man’s validity. Those who know their identity are at peace with God and themselves, set free from a need for man’s changing opinions and approval. True freedom is being assured by what God says about you.
Your identity is a special gift from God.
Knowing your identity in Christ is having God’s life living and flowing out of you, and it can make all the difference in the world for it gives you clarity and courage in whatever you do. When you deeply embrace every aspect of your identity in Christ, it will fully align your attitudes and behaviour to your purpose.
