14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Being led by God is not a feeling.
Many believers somehow assume that they need to wait for some kind of feeling to move them before they do anything. Moreover, even if such a feeling does come, you will most likely question whether it is from God. To be led by God is to be guided by His Spirit through His Scriptures. For His Spirit can quicken every Scriptural word and make it clear and relevant for you to act accordingly.
If you always rely on your own fleshly human impulses to dictate your actions, you will always live in conflict with God’s Word. The Apostle Paul tells us we actually reveal our identity by the way we respond to God’s leading. Only sons and daughters seek to hear and obey the voice of their Father God. And it is precisely because we are sons and daughters that God gave us His Spirit (Galatians 4:6) so that we will not walk according to our flesh, but always walk in step with His Spirit (Romans 8:1, 4; Galatians 5:16).
Some profess to hear God, but their actions and thoughts actually contradict God’s Word. The Apostle John tells us not to believe everyone who claims to speak for and from God, but we are to test themand see whether they are of God (1 John 4:1).
How do we do so?
The Bible says that the Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of grace” (Hebrews 10:29) and if we truly listen to His leading, our attitude and behaviour will surely reflect such graciousness that befits our belief of God’s grace in the gospel.
